A picturesque town on the Gulf of Mirabello on Lassithi Crete’s north-east coast.The town has three faces to the sea: The Lake ,the port Kitroplatia beach and the Marina. The lake Voulismeni is connected to the sea by a narrow inlet. It is surrounded and overlooked by cafes and restaurants – a busy gathering place for locals and visitors.
Beaches
⛱:Ammos (sandy public beach by the marina), Kitroplatia is the town centre beach, Ammoudi and Havania beaches (on the way to Elounda). In the area⛱:Almiros and Ammoudara (sandy beaches with organized facilities, about 2.5 km east of Agios Nikolaos), Istron, Elounda small sandy beach (10 km), Plaka pebble beach (16 km).
⭐️Elounda is a famous tourist attraction, heavily visited by VIPs for its seaside luxury resorts.The area retains its authentic character and offers a unique landscape with many coves and amazing beaches.In the port of Elounda boats depart for the island of Spinalonga.
⭐️Spinalonga is a rocky islet lying out of Elounda.Due to its strategic location, it was fortified and served a variety of roles and purposes over the centuries.The island was subsequently used as a leper colony from 1903 to 1957. A novel written by Victoria Hislop dedicated to this islet has won several awards .
⭐️Vai Palm Beach
