One of the island’s natural sites is the Cave of Poseidon, in the location of Myloi. The cave’s portal has been carved out of the rock, as have some niches on the inside. It was used either as a tomb or a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea, though some archaeologists have claimed it might have been dedicated to Aphrodite instead. This hypothesis is based on the discovery of statuettes depicting Aphrodite in the area around the cave.
On the suburbs of Pigadia, overlooking the eastern coast of the island, lie the ruins of Agia Fotini. This Paleochristian basilica dates around the 5th and 6th centuries AD and is one of the most historically significant sites in the area.
Visitors will be able to see a collection of doric columns made of marble and the frames of the once-thriving religious center. The advantageous location of the site provides a beautiful view of the sea in a serene and quiet environment. The chapel is lit up at night, creating a uniquely enchanting atmosphere amidst the natural landscape.
