Galaxidi
Galaxidi is picturesque town in Fokida Greece mainland , built on a double harbor in Corinthian gulf.
Is a charming coastal town that has an island-like atmosphere .
In fact until 1963 it was only accessible by boat so it truly was like an island.
Galaxidi was home to some of the country’s most important shipping families, a legacy which can be observed at the Nautical and Historical Museum, the first of its kind in Greece.
The town’s neoclassical houses with figureheads and pebble-covered courtyards have been preserved, as have the kapetanospita, meaning “captain’s houses”. Some are inhabited, while others have been transformed into holiday homes and guesthouses.
- The little town’s has very traditional waterfront restaurants and cafes overlooking a lush pine forest.
Ideal for a short getaway, as well as for quiet family vacations, Galaxidi may also serve as a launching pad for visits to Delphi, a 20-minute drive away, Amfissa, and the northern coastline of Corinthian Gulf
